The symposium

The 1947 report Catholicity formed the basis of a Symposium sponsored by the Society of the Faith. This was held at Southwark Cathedral in November 2017, and attended by over sixty people from across England. The papers from that Symposium are presented here, along with the discussion that followed.

In mounting our Symposium, we succeeded in putting together an impressive group of speakers. The day was chaired by the Rt Revd Graham James, then Bishop of Norwich (and honorary Guardian of Walsingham).

The speakers were:

Dr Andrew Chandler, Professor in Modern History at the University of Chichester;

The Revd Fr Peter Allan, CR, Principal of the College of the Resurrection, Mirfield;

The Revd Canon Dr Robin Ward, Principal of St Stephen’s House, Oxford;

The Revd Dr Carolyn Hammond, Fellow and Dean of Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge;

The Revd Dr Andrew Davison, Starbridge Lecturer in Theology and Natural Sciences and Fellow of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge;

The Rt Revd Dr Martin Warner, Lord Bishop of Chichester.
